The Stoics tried the hopeless little game of denying its objective reality, or of declaring it a good in itself (which it never is); and the Pessimists attempted to revel in it, as a food to their melancholy, and as something that can no more be transformed than it can be avoided or explained. But Christ came, and He did not really explain it; He did far more: He met it, willed it, transformed it; and He taught us to do all this -- or, rather, He Himself does it within us, if we do not hinder the all-healing hands.

Some people are molded by their admirations, others by their hostilities.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/624

Some people are molded by their admirations, others by their hostilities.

There is no other book that I know of that provides such a comprehensive exposition of gang dynamics and activities.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/38577

There is no other book that I know of that provides such a comprehensive exposition of gang dynamics and activities.

Humor distorts nothing, and only false gods are laughed off their earthly pedestals. - Points of View.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/20100

Humor distorts nothing, and only false gods are laughed off their earthly pedestals. - Points of View.

Appearances to save, his only care; So things seem right, no matter what they are.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/2815

Appearances to save, his only care; So things seem right, no matter what they are.

Confidence awakens confidence.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/9675

Confidence awakens confidence.

Beware of the man of one book.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/53737

Beware of the man of one book.

We got our composure back. We see more clearly than often has been the case that ecclesiology and christology are one. The ekklesia, the community of believers, has as its first and foremost qualification that it is that community which, as community, belongs to Christ and is in Christ, and as such is the sphere of God's salvation, redemption, and reconciliation, and of Christ's rulership. This is the archetypal reality of the Church. To see and seize this essential point is a great blessing. This blessing, however, could as well become a curse, if it remained a theme of theological meditation and self-contemplation. This new knowledge is not real knowledge if it is not accompanied by a horror about the alienation of the empirical Church from its own fundamental reality and by a deep longing for a tangible manifestation of the Church's true nature. This horror and this longing are the deeper motives which are operating in many of the events and passionate discussions around the place and responsibility of the laity as an organic part of the Church.

Nature is an endless combination and repetition of a very few laws.
