Instead of the living, loving, self-manifesting God of the Old Testament Israel now took hold of the abstract idea of the unity, or rather the unicity, of God, as if that were God. Before -- when they lived in communion with God, when God was known to them as a Person, speaking, acting, blessing, who had chosen them, who was educating them, and who was going to fulfill His promises -- they declared, in opposition to the idolatrous nations that surrounded them, that this God of Israel was one God, that there are not many gods; but when they lost communion with God, in order to show what distinguished them from the nations of the earth, and especially from Christians, they emphasized that God in Himself was only one Person, and not as He is revealed to us in the Scripture: Sender, Sent, and Spirit. It is the boast of the modern Jewish synagogue that their great mission is to testify to the world the unity of God. But it is a striking fact that the Gentile nations who have, since the dispersion of Israel, been converted from idolatry, have been influenced, not by the synagogue, but by the congregations of Jesus Christ, and were baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost... It is one thing to believe in justification by faith, it is another thing to be justified by faith; and so it is one thing to believe in God, who is One, and it is another to believe in the numerical abstraction, in the mere idea of unicity.

Men are the sport of circumstances, when The circumstances seem the sport of men.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/8702

Men are the sport of circumstances, when The circumstances seem the sport of men.

Meetings are an addictive, highly self-indulgent activity that corporations and other large organizations habitually engage in only because they cannot ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/26824

Meetings are an addictive, highly self-indulgent activity that corporations and other large organizations habitually engage in only because they cannot masturbate

And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/51955

And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house.

It was the calm and silent night! Seven hundred years and fifty-three Had Rome been growing up to might ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/8630

It was the calm and silent night! Seven hundred years and fifty-three Had Rome been growing up to might And now was queen of land and sea. No sound was heard of clashing wars, Peace brooded o'er the hushed domain; Apollo, Pallas, Jove and Mars, Held undisturbed their ancient reign, In the solemn midnight, Centuries ago.

I have yet to see any problem, however complicated, which, when you looked at it in the right way, did ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/44248

I have yet to see any problem, however complicated, which, when you looked at it in the right way, did not become still more complicated.

Jesus did not finish all the urgent tasks in Palestine or all the things He would have liked to do, ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/7349

Jesus did not finish all the urgent tasks in Palestine or all the things He would have liked to do, but He did finish the work which Gad gave Him to do. The only alternative to frustration is to be sure that we are doing what God wants. Nothing substitutes for knowing that this day, this hour, in this place, we are doing the will of the Father. You are surrendering to love, because God is Love, the cohesive force of the universe that connects us all. Surrender is not just a religious concept; it's a power tool for listening to the voice of your spirit and following its directions. When you surrender your head to your heart, you allow your heart to give you a wider, higher intelligence perspective. Remember the phrase, "The real teacher is within you." Very simply, that teacher is to be found in the common sense of your own heart. -Sara Paddison.

He is covered by the heavens who has no sepulchral urn. [Lat., Coelo tegitur qui non habet urnam.]

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/43045

He is covered by the heavens who has no sepulchral urn. [Lat., Coelo tegitur qui non habet urnam.]

I could have better spared a better man. -King Henry IV. What reasonable or acceptable service can we then perform to God? When our candle is just sinking into the socket, how shall our light "so shine before men that they may see our good works"?...
