The faith that limits itself to the promises of God seems to me to partake of the paltry character of such a faith in my child -- good enough for a Pagan, but for a Christian a miserable and wretched faith. Those who rest in such a faith would feel yet more comfortable if they had God's bond instead of His word, which they regard not as the outcome of His character but as a pledge of His honour. They try to believe in the truth of His word, but the truth of His Being they understand not. In His oath they persuade themselves that they put confidence: in himself they do not believe, for they know Him not.

He is the happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/19599

He is the happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home

The pursuit of perfection, then, is the pursuit of sweetness and light.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/25075

The pursuit of perfection, then, is the pursuit of sweetness and light.

We're ready. Earth, tell it out abroad; The passover of gladness, The passover of God. From death to life eternal, From this world to the sky, Our Christ hath brought us over With hymns of victory. Our hearts be pure from evil, That we may see aright The Lord in rays eternal Of resurrection light, And, list'ning to His accents, May hear, so calm and plain His own "All hail!" and, hearing, May raise the victor strain. Now let the heav'ns be joyful, Let earth her song begin, Let the round world keep triumph And all that is therein; Invisible and visible, Their notes let all things blend; For Christ the Lord has risen -- Our Joy that has no end.

Feast of John Coleridge Patteson, First Bishop of Melanesia, & his Companions, Martyrs, 1871 The world would use us ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/7102

Feast of John Coleridge Patteson, First Bishop of Melanesia, & his Companions, Martyrs, 1871 The world would use us just as it did the martyrs, if we loved God as they did.

Maundy Thursday Feast of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Teacher, Martyr, 1945 What do I mean by "interpret in a religious ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/8593

Maundy Thursday Feast of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Teacher, Martyr, 1945 What do I mean by "interpret in a religious sense"? In my view, that means to speak on the one hand metaphysically, and on the other individualistically. Neither of these is relevant to the Bible message or to the man of today. Is it not true to say that individualistic concern for personal salvation has almost completely left us all? Are we not really under the impression that there are more important things than bothering about such a matter? (Perhaps not more important than the matter itself, but more than bothering about it). I know it sounds pretty monstrous to say that. But is it not, at bottom, even Biblical?... It is not with the next world that we are concerned, but with this world as created and preserved and set subject to laws and atoned for and made new. What is above the world is, in the Gospel, intended to exist for this world -- I mean that not in the anthropocentric sense of liberal, pietistic, ethical theology, but in the Bible sense of the creation and of the incarnation, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Her parthenogenetic birth from Adam's body makes Eve his daughter so that the Judeo-Christian tradition rests on a primal father-daughter ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/23462

Her parthenogenetic birth from Adam's body makes Eve his daughter so that the Judeo-Christian tradition rests on a primal father-daughter incest motif

My skull, my eyes, my nose three times, my jaw, my shoulder, my chest, two fingers, a knee, everything from ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/4461

My skull, my eyes, my nose three times, my jaw, my shoulder, my chest, two fingers, a knee, everything from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet.
