Common sense tells us this assumption is wrong -- and nothing in the Bible supports such a conclusion. Believing that God is the Lord of history, we believe that God is at work now in the development of industry and commerce throughout the world, in the experiments and researches of the scientists, in the deliberations of the United Nations, and in the course of events in Berlin and Havana, in Moscow and Peiping, and Detroit. One might say, then that He seems to be doing some very strange and contradictory things! But, though we cannot claim to know God's purpose in all this, we do believe that God acts in all these circumstances. The revolutionary changes of our time are not all a mistake: they are not taking place without God.

[Benigno Aguirre, of the Disaster Research Center at the University of Delaware, has been watching and reading about looters in ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/30044

[Benigno Aguirre, of the Disaster Research Center at the University of Delaware, has been watching and reading about looters in Louisiana.] It may look from the outside as if they are stealing or breaking the law, ... when in fact some of them are trying to survive.

You measure a government by how few people need help.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/19185

You measure a government by how few people need help.

All prayers and hopes are a reaching-out for coincidences.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/52323

All prayers and hopes are a reaching-out for coincidences.

I'm not disappointed with bronze today because the big difference is between gold and silver, not silver and bronze.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/35214

I'm not disappointed with bronze today because the big difference is between gold and silver, not silver and bronze.

The stronger data virtually assure significant changes in the Fed's directive this week. The mind of our generation, having little comprehension or taste for such a message, is usually content to try to discover "the Jesus of history", conceived as a human example and teacher of a distant past. Meanwhile, there exists always alongside all forms of religious belief the great tradition of mystical experience. The mystic knows that, whatever be the truth about an historic act or person, there is a Spirit dwelling in man. In our time, even natural science abates its arrogant denials and admits the possibility of such immanence... The weak point of mysticism, as seen at least by a matter-of-fact person, is that it is apt to be so nebulous ethically. What the Immanent is, those who claim most traffic with It can often least tell us. Is It a power making for righteousness, or is It a higher synthesis of good and evil? Or is It not a moral -- that is to say, not a personal Being at all?... The raising of these questions is not intended to throw any doubt upon the validity of mystical experience as such; but we have a right to ask what content is given in the experience. Paul was a mystic, but all his mystical experience had a personal object. It was Jesus Christ, a real, living person --historic, yet not of the past alone; divine, yet not alien from humanity.

Villany reduces those whom it defiles to the same level.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/50595

Villany reduces those whom it defiles to the same level.

There will be an orientation on Sept. 29, where there will be commitment between guides and parents. ("To know all is to forgive all.") No commonplace is more untrue. Behavior, whether conditioned by an individual neurosis or by society, can be understood, that is to say, one knows exactly why such and such an individual behaves as he does. But a personal action or deed is always mysterious. When we really act, precisely because it is a matter of free choice, we can never say exactly why we do this rather than that. But it is only deeds that we are required to forgive. If someone does me an injury, the question of forgiveness only arises if I am convinced (a) that the injury he did me was a free act on his part and therefore no less mysterious to him than to me, and (b) that it was me personally whom he meant to injure. Christ does not forgive the soldiers who are nailing him to the Cross; he asks the Father to forgive them. He knows as well as they do why they are doing this -- they are a squad, detailed to execute a criminal. They do not know what they are doing, because it is not their business, as executioners, to know whom they are crucifying. If the person who does me an injury does not know what he is doing, then it is as ridiculous for me to talk about forgiving him as it would be for me to "forgive" a tile which falls on my head in a gale.

The future is purchased by the present.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/48133

The future is purchased by the present.

The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/3985

The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we don't know what to do.

Negotiations, in the view of the government, are the only constructive way to a solution of this question.
