Was there really an ordained ministry as early as that? We need not argue about whether, or how, St. Paul was ordained, but he certainly considered that he and his fellow workers had a special pastoral relation to their converts.... St. Paul was primarily a missionary, which in itself establishes a link with the Servant of the Lord. As a missionary, he was not working on his own, but was supported by a group of assistants without whose help he could never have carried on his work. We know the names of many of them... But there were many more whose names we do not know, sometimes referred to as "the brethren" (e.g., in I Cor. 16:11). This missionary group with St. Paul as its leader is the New Testament equivalent of the ordained ministry of today, and it is significant for us that St. Paul describes this group as carrying out in some sense the work of servants in the Church.

Reputations, like beavers and cloaks, shall last some people twice the time of others.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/53885

Reputations, like beavers and cloaks, shall last some people twice the time of others.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall hiss for the fly that is in ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/16221

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

Seek not the favor of the multitude; it is seldom got by honest and lawful means. Now, mind you, that is quite true; but it tells you much less than the whole truth about Christianity, and it has no practical importance at all. It is quite true that, if we took Christ's advice, we should soon be living in a happier world. You need not even go as far as Christ. If we did all that... Confucius told us, we should get on a great deal better than we do. And so what?... If Christianity only means one more bit of good advice, then Christianity is of no importance. There has been no lack of good advice for the last four thousand years. A bit more makes no difference.

This is going to change my life a lot.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/34150

This is going to change my life a lot.

Play is the only way the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/46677

Play is the only way the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold.

I am his Highness' dog at Kew; Pray tell me, sir, whose dog are you?

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/12665

I am his Highness' dog at Kew; Pray tell me, sir, whose dog are you?

Prologues precede the piece in mournful verse, As undertakers walk before the hearse.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/421

Prologues precede the piece in mournful verse, As undertakers walk before the hearse.

While women need the right to birth control and abortion, we also need to be able to have and raise ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/38744

While women need the right to birth control and abortion, we also need to be able to have and raise children, and that means equal opportunity, good jobs and equal pay.

I hate ingratitude more in man Than lying, vainness, babbling, drunkenness, Or any taint of vice.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/51529

I hate ingratitude more in man Than lying, vainness, babbling, drunkenness, Or any taint of vice.

We have started enriching uranium to the 3.5 percent level.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/35719

We have started enriching uranium to the 3.5 percent level.

I think the number one factor impacting these programs is the tight labor market, which is making it really hard ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/40260

I think the number one factor impacting these programs is the tight labor market, which is making it really hard for employers to let their workers go for eight to 12 weeks at time.

You don't have to accept it.
