This is testimony, the apostolic testimony, and this, with the energy of love, is the missionary motive. The insistent task of missionary education and responsibility is to engender this motive throughout the Church, a task that can only be accomplished as men are confronted anew with the message of the Bible and with its supreme and central story, the story of the cross.

If you look at history you'll find that no state has been so plagued by its rulers as when power ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/25288

If you look at history you'll find that no state has been so plagued by its rulers as when power has fallen into the hands of some dabbler in philosophy or literary addict.

Without education we are in a horrible and deadly danger of taking educated people seriously.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/57055

Without education we are in a horrible and deadly danger of taking educated people seriously.

The acknowledgment of our weakness is the first step toward repairing our loss.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/25593

The acknowledgment of our weakness is the first step toward repairing our loss.

Contempt is the weapon of the weak and a defense against one's own despised and unwanted feelings.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/9927

Contempt is the weapon of the weak and a defense against one's own despised and unwanted feelings.

Feast of Lancelot Andrewes, Bishop of Winchester, Spiritual Writer, 1626 Commemoration of Sergius of Radonezh, Russian Monastic Reformer, Teacher, 1392 ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/7434

Feast of Lancelot Andrewes, Bishop of Winchester, Spiritual Writer, 1626 Commemoration of Sergius of Radonezh, Russian Monastic Reformer, Teacher, 1392 The more we study the early Church, the more we realize that it was a society of ministers. If we admit that men can do very well without Christ, we accept the Saviour only as a luxury for ourselves. If they can do very well without Christ, then so could we. This is to turn our backs upon the Christ of the gospels and the Christ of Acts and to turn our faces towards law, morality, philosophy, natural religion. We look at the moral teaching of some of the heathen nations and we find it higher than we had expected... Or we look at morality in Christian lands, and we begin to wonder whether our practice is really much higher than theirs, and we say, "They are very well as they are. Leave them alone." When we so speak and think we are treating the question of the salvation of men exactly as we should have treated it had Christ never appeared in the world at all. It is an essentially pre-Christian attitude, and implies that the Son of God has not been delivered for our salvation. It suggests that the one and only way of salvation known to me is to keep the commandments. That was indeed true before the coming of the Son of God, before the Passion, before the Resurrection, before Pentecost; but after Pentecost that is no longer true. After Pentecost, the answer to any man who inquires the way of salvation is no longer "Keep the law," but "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.".

Success... it's what you do with what you've got.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/926

Success... it's what you do with what you've got.

A cup of hot wine with not a drop of allaying Tiber in 't. -Coriolanus. The "joy" that was set before Jesus was, we feel, knowing of the riches which would come to his brethren out of his death. In short, we are his joy, set before him when on the cross.
