When there is a want of brotherly love and Christian confidence among professors of religion, then a revival is needed. Then there is a loud call for God to revive his work. When Christians have sunk down into a low and backslidden state, they neither have, nor ought to have, nor is there reason to have, the same love and confidence toward each other, as when they are all alive, and active, and living holy lives... 2. When there are dissensions, and jealousies, and evil speakings among professors of religion, then there is great need of a revival. These things show that Christians have got far from God, and it is time to think earnestly of a revival. Religion cannot prosper with such things in the church, and nothing can put an end to them like a revival. 3. When there is a worldly spirit in the church: it is manifest that the church is sunk down into a low and backslidden state, when you see Christians conform to the world in dress, equipage, parties, seeking worldly amusements, reading novels and other books such as the world reads. It shows that they are far from God, and that there is a great need of a Revival of Religion. [Continued tomorrow].

Giving much to the poore, doth inrich a mans store.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/49266

Giving much to the poore, doth inrich a mans store.

A bride is a woman with a fine prospect of happiness behind her.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/4916

A bride is a woman with a fine prospect of happiness behind her.

Big Baby pushed me out of the lane. I get upset about it, because I feel that we American Christians make too much of it, and too little. Too little of it, because we pile all sorts of other things onto it, including some that have only the feeblest connection with the Event it is supposed to commemorate. If God did become a man, in any real sense, it is the most important thing that ever happened. Surely we, who believe it, could well devote one day a year to uninterrupted contemplation of the fact, and let Saturnalia fall on the winter solstice, where it belongs. On the other hand, we make so much of the actual birth, and forget the things that make it more than just the birth of a baby (though even that is, in Walt Whitman's phrase, "miracle enough to stagger sextillions of infidels") -- more, even, than the birth of the greatest man who ever lived. We forget the promise to Eve of a descendant who will solve the problem of Evil; the promise to Abraham of one by whom all mankind will be blessed; the promise to Moses of a greater prophet than he, to arise from his people; and the promise to David of a Son who would be his Master. We forget about the eternal Purpose behind it all: it's like telling a story and leaving out the point. Yes, it is true that God gave us His Son, and so maybe we ought also to give gifts -- but what, and to whom? It is also true that God gave us Himself, and the only sensible response to that is to give ourselves to Him. There is nothing else that He wants from us, or, if there is something, He can take it. Only I, my ego, my heart, is truly mine to give or to withhold -- and is therefore the appropriate gift to Him.

If you give money, spend yourself with it.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/5737

If you give money, spend yourself with it.

The capon burns, the pig falls from the spit, The clock hath strucken twelve upon the bell; My mistress ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/10142

The capon burns, the pig falls from the spit, The clock hath strucken twelve upon the bell; My mistress made it one upon my cheek: She is so hot because the meat is cold; The meat is cold because you come not home; You come not home because you have no stomach; You have no stomach, having broke your fast; But we, that know what 'tis to fast and pray, Are penitent for your default to-day.

That thou seest, man, become too thou must; God, if thou seest God, dust, if thou seest dust.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/9431

That thou seest, man, become too thou must; God, if thou seest God, dust, if thou seest dust.

Small businesses are searching for a flexible, functional solution that will quickly and painlessly help them manage daily accounting tasks ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/29428

Small businesses are searching for a flexible, functional solution that will quickly and painlessly help them manage daily accounting tasks and also support a company's growth and evolution, from startup to mid-market. If you have to do with one who is unquestionably a slanderer, do not excuse him by calling him frank and free-spoken; do not call one who is notoriously vain, liberal and elegant; do not call dangerous levities mere simplicity; do not screen disobedience under the name of zeal; or arrogance, of frankness; or evil intimacy, of friendship. No, my friends, we must never, in our wish to shun slander, foster or flatter vice in others: but we must call evil evil, and sin sin, and so doing we shall serve God's glory.

Man was made at the end of the week's work, when God was tired

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/27048

Man was made at the end of the week's work, when God was tired

Pretty soon we're going home to a lot of bad things,

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/30445

Pretty soon we're going home to a lot of bad things,

I'm very pleased with my performance and being up there with Karin and Joane, both of whom I look up ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/40269

I'm very pleased with my performance and being up there with Karin and Joane, both of whom I look up to, is great.
