But, in addition, God affects us by determining that in the universe certain causes shall bring about certain effects. Cause and effect is, therefore, the operation of God through normal channels rather than through special channels. We have our normal way of acting when we drive a car. We can more or less put it in "automatic pilot" while we carry on a conversation, but when an emergency arises, we take conscious personal control. I have a hunch that God has something for which this automatic pilot will serve as an illustration. That is, His routine way of operating is cause and effect, and He is in control of it, so that when cause and effect affects us, then God is affecting us. That is what the Apostle Paul means in Galatians when he says, "Do not kid yourself -- God is not blind. What you do, you will get paid for." The causes which we have set in operation by our own personal choices will inevitably bring about certain results. But God is involved because God makes cause and effect to work. [Continued tomorrow].

And a good south wind sprung up behind, The Albatross did follow, And every day, for food or play, ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/1979

And a good south wind sprung up behind, The Albatross did follow, And every day, for food or play, Came to the mariner's hollo! "God save thee, ancient Mariner! From the fiends that plague thus thee!-- Why look'st thou so?"--"With my cross-bow I shot the Albatross."

Demons in act, but gods at least in face.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/48729

Demons in act, but gods at least in face.

I am as frustrated with society as a pyromaniac in a petrified forest.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/17024

I am as frustrated with society as a pyromaniac in a petrified forest.

I got into an argument with a girlfriend inside of a tent. "Only those who believe obey" is what we say to that part of a believer's soul which obeys, and "only those who obey believe" is what we say to that part of the soul of the obedient which believes. If the first half of the proposition stands alone, the believer is exposed to the danger of cheap grace, which is another word for damnation. If the second half stands alone, the believer is exposed to the danger of salvation through works, which is also another word for damnation.

He was wont to say that if he had read as much as other men he should have known no ...

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/38824

He was wont to say that if he had read as much as other men he should have known no more than other men.

All these primary impulses, not easily described in words, are the springs of man's actions.

http://www.maxioms.com/maxiom/66760

All these primary impulses, not easily described in words, are the springs of man's actions.

Enjoy life.
